Tobias Wagner, M.Sc.

Energy Efficiency Expert, Hamburg

As a certified energy consultant, I support you in carrying out renovations you have already planned, or work out a concept for your building with you, from a family home to an apartment building.

I also guide homeowners' associations (WEG) and property managers through the whole process: from the vote at the owners' meeting and the cost-benefit calculation for every unit to carrying out larger renovation projects.

I can also handle your funding applications to BAFA, KfW and IFB, check that the measures are carried out correctly and prepare the documentation the funding bodies require.

Alongside my consulting work, I teach on training courses for energy consultants.

Consultations are possible in English. Funding applications and the documents required by the funding bodies are issued in German.

Frequently asked questions

On costs, funding and process. More detail on the full FAQ page (in German).

What does an individual renovation roadmap cost?

For a single- or two-family house the fee is typically €1,800 to €2,200 incl. VAT before funding. BAFA covers 50 per cent, up to €650. Your own share is then about €1,150 to €1,550. For apartment buildings, size and effort vary widely, so I state the fee in the quote after reviewing the documents.

Do you also advise before buying a house?

Yes. Before the notary appointment I assess the renovation needs, costs and funding, including loans that come with a renovation obligation such as KfW 308 "Jung kauft Alt". Once the purchase contract is signed, the funded renovation roadmap and the applications follow. More on the page Energy consulting before buying a house.

Which funding suits my project?

That depends on whether you are planning an individual measure, a new heating system or a renovation to Efficiency House (Effizienzhaus) standard. I look at BAFA, KfW and IFB programmes together and propose the most economical route.

Does the funding application have to be submitted before contractors are hired?

Yes. For most programmes the contractor may only be commissioned after the application has been submitted or approved. I plan the schedule with you accordingly.

Do you also work with owners' associations and property managers?

Yes, this is a focus of my work. I support owners' associations from the presentation at the owners' meeting to the cost-benefit calculation for all units.
